While visiting relatives in NYC for the day, the kiddo spied the Roosevelt Island Tram and HAD to ride it. It's a fun way to get a different perspective of the city and the Roosevelt Island side has a nice river walk with fantastic views of Manhattan.

Lake Naraneka - Ridgefield, Connecticut
We like to walk the woodland trail that runs along the edge of this beautiful lake.

Hudson, NY - a quirky, cool little city in the Hudson Valley. We took a day trip here after reading about it in New York Magazine: http://nymag.com/travel/weekends/hudsonnew/
It's a small city with Brooklyn attitude. Lots of restaurants and little shops selling antiques and local/handmade items. We combined this with a visit to Olana (a mix of Victorian and Middle Eastern architecture) and stops at farm stands for organic veggies.

We're just back from a week in Bermuda. It was a nice little getaway, and much needed since I've been working 12 hour days for the last six months! I loved the brightly colored houses on the hillside, as well as the dilapidated buildings of the dockyards.
This is probably obvious, but I was surprised to discover that there wasn't a whole lot of wildlife in Bermuda...unless chickens count: ) The Great Kiskadee was a nice find.

Jones Family Farm Winery - Shelton, CT
My husband and I are going to make our way through the Connecticut Wine Trail...first stop Jones Family Farm. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that this farm was as nice as some of wineries on Long Island that I miss since moving (Channing, Wolffer, Old Field Farm). With wines by the glass (and tastings, too), paired with local cheeses, it was a really nice place to stop while searching for the perfect pumpkin for the front stoop.

Garden of Ideas - Ridgefield, CT
Located one hour from NYC in Ridgefield, CT, eight acres of marsh, woodland, meadow and vegetable plots coalesce to form the Garden of Ideas. Enjoy an arboretum-like collection of plants (trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, vegetables, tropicals) amidst a unique array of original garden art.
The Garden was conceived and is maintained to create beautiful garden spaces, grow interesting plants well, minimize unnecessary landscape maintenance, provide animal habitats, and produce an abundance of nutrient dense food crops.
This is a great place for kids to visit as well as adults. My daughter really enjoys searching for frogs and butterflies, as well as the elusive garden gnome. She also looks forward to visiting the chickens and mastering the rock maze.
